The significance of the Battle of the Xisha Islands on January 19, 1974, was immense. It marked the success of the first external naval battle for the newly founded People’s Republic of China. This victory allowed us to gain strategic control over the Xisha Islands, subsequently leading to control over the Zhongsha Islands and providing a strategic foothold for future advances into the Nansha Islands.
