Top Chinese Diplomat Meets US National Security Advisor

Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met on January 26-27 with US Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Bangkok to follow up on the Woodside Summit between President Biden and President Xi last November.  

During the talks, the two sides had candid, substantive and fruitful strategic communication on implementing the consensus reached by leaders of the two countries in San Francisco and properly handling important and sensitive issues in China-US relations.

Wang noted that as this year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the US, both sides should take this opportunity to draw experience and lessons, finding the right way for China and the United States to get along with each other.

Both sides agreed to carry out further discussions on the boundaries between national security and economic activities.

The two sides agreed to jointly implement the “San Francisco vision”, including maintaining regular contact to provide strategic guidance to bilateral relations and so on. The two sides also discussed international and regional issues, including the Middle East, Ukraine, the Korean Peninsula and the South China Sea.

Chinese Tennis Player Finished Second in Australia Open

Chinese player Zheng Qinwen won the second place in the women’s singles of the 2024 Australian Open, creating her best result in a Grand Slam tournament. But Zheng was unable to break a 10-year Grand Slam title drought in singles for Chinese players. Li Na still remains the only major winner in singles for China.

Large Oil Field Discovered in Henan, Central China

According to the 2024 National Geological Survey, an oil field with an estimated reserve of 107 million tons was discovered in Henan, Central China. The discovery achieved a major breakthrough in oil and gas surveys in the area over the past 50 years, the CCTV report said.

Oil and gas resources are China’s national strategic minerals, China’s oil imports of more than 70%, a high degree of external dependence. In order to alleviate the contradiction between supply and demand, in recent years, China has been accelerating the exploration of oil and gas resources.

China has a large number of small and medium-sized basins, a large area of exploration gaps, and a high potential for oil and gas resources. It is seen as one of the important areas for the next step in the construction of oil and gas resource succession bases. This breakthrough is of great significance as a successful experiences and reference for oil and gas exploration in small and medium-sized basins in China.
