The 77th WHA rejects Taiwan-related proposal

On May 27, the 77th WHA, which kicked off in Geneva, Switzerland, refused to include the proposal of a so-called invitation to Taiwan to participate in the WHA as an observer.

Chinese Foreign Ministry said WHA’s action fully demonstrates the one-China principle is where global opinion trends and the arc of history bends, and must not be challenged.

The Ministry indicated that  “once again we would like to make it clear to the DPP authorities that the abiding commitment of the international community to the one-China principle is unshakable and the trend that China will be reunified is not to be reversed. “Taiwan independence” runs contrary to the interests of our compatriots in Taiwan, and any attempt to seek “Taiwan independence” by relying on external forces leads nowhere.”

Chinese Defense Minister to attend Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore

According to China’s Ministry of National Defense, upon invitation, Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun will attend the 21st IISS Shangri-La Dialogue and visit Singapore from May 29 to June 3.

During the event, Dong will deliver a speech on China’s global security concept and meet delegation leaders from related countries. Dong will also meet and hold talks with leaders of the Singapore’s new administration and defense authority during his visit to Singapore, according to the press release from the Chinese Defense Ministry.

Chinese state media Global Times argues that as a convention, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and some other speakers from the West are likely to hype the “China threat” theory at the Shangri-La Dialogue, which has long been a “home court” for Western countries, and the Chinese delegation will undoubtedly take a clear-cut stance to respond.
