Scientists at Tsinghua University have created a 3D printed heart that flows with blood and has been beating outside the body for more than 100 days. More precisely, they used SPIRIT technology to print a lifelike ventricular model for the first time. This heart cannot be used yet, but it has significant advantages compared to previous technologies: it replicates the intricate structure of human organs outside the body, especially with perfusable blood vessel networks. This represents an important step on the path to “fast printing” and the future of “on-demand organ manufacturing” for complex organs.
