Scientists have created an aerial seeding technology to help address food shortages. It uses seed carriers made of wood veneer that mimic the Erodium plant's corkscrew-like fruits. When wet, the carriers self-drill into soil, enabling seeds dropped from aircraft to efficiently plant themselves with a high germination rate. Further automation could enable large-scale manufacturing.
