China’s top diplomat starts Central Asia visit

China’s top diplomat Wang Yi’s visit to Central Asia where he will also attend a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs will further enhance China’s cooperation with the region, and better coordinate and prepare for the upcoming meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO, Chinese experts said. They believe the SCO’s expansion and anti-terrorism efforts will top the agenda of this year’s meetings, and further highlight the organization’s influence and important role under a complicated international environment.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe on Saturday, with both sides pledging to expand bilateral cooperation in various areas.

Wang noted that China and Tajikistan, linked by mountains and rivers, have cultivated a profound traditional friendship. The two sides have always respected each other, treated each other as equals and extended mutual support at critical moments.

China, Cambodia proceed with joint land, naval exercise

According to Chinese state media, the ongoing China-Cambodia joint exercise is proceeding smoothly after its launch, as the Cambodian troops got their hands on some of China’s latest weapons and equipment, showing a high level of mutual trust between the two militaries.

The Golden Dragon-2024 joint drills entered the adaptation phase on Saturday, when the participating troops from both sides practiced their skills and had deep exchanges.

In a light arms exchange session, Chinese soldiers guided their Cambodian counterparts through using Chinese sniper rifles. Photos released in the Southern Theater Command’s press release show that the type of the sniper rifle featured in the exchange session was the QBU-191, the latest precision rifle in service with the PLA.

The two sides also held exchanges over the operation of unmanned intelligent equipment, medical equipment and first aid techniques, in addition to having cultural and entertainment activities that boosted friendship and mutual trust.
