China strongly opposes, condemns provocative visit of UK politicians to the island of Taiwan

China voiced firm opposition on Sunday toward the ongoing visit to the island of Taiwan this week by a “Labor Friends of Taiwan” delegation composed of some Labor members of the House of Lords and MPs, saying the visit is a blatant violation of the one-China principle and serious interference in China’s internal affairs, and the visit also sends a wrong signal to the island’s separatist forces for “Taiwan independence.”

The provocative visit, which came after the UK has accused China of the so-called cyberespionage and criticized China for the recently implemented the Article 23 legislation in Hong Kong as well as the South China Sea issue, is considered another political maneuver that some British politicians have been playing in order to “create bargaining chips” for themselves, and sending out “a chilling effect” for UK-China relations, some experts said.

We express strong condemnation over the visit, a spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in the UK said in a statement on Sunday. We urge relevant British politicians to stop violating the one-China principle and stop interfering in China’s internal affairs. The relevant British politicians must know that any act that undermines China’s interests will be met with forceful responses, the spokesperson said.

US recruits Japan for joint patrols with the Philippines

The situation in the South China Sea has further intensified due to the provocative actions of the US and its allies, Chinese analysts said over reports that Japan is slated to send its Maritime Self-Defense Force to conduct its first joint naval patrols with the US and the Philippines in the region later this year.

Chinese analysts warned that the trilateral exercises in the South China Sea, evidently designed and pushed by the US, only serve to incite greater crisis and conflicts in the western Pacific to help the US compete with China, secure the US leadership among its allies, and profit from the chaos just as it did in the Europe.

6.7m people in China signed up for organ donations

China’s annual national commemoration event for human organ donation was held in Hangzhou, East China’s Zhejiang Province on Sunday. In recent years, significant progress has been made in China’s body and organ donations, but there is still a large gap in medical supply and demand and there is still much work to be done in terms of social awareness for the cause.

Statistics show that there are more than 6.7 million registered organ donors nationwide. There have been more than 51,000 cases of posthumous organ donation and more than 158,000 organs donated, saving the lives of 150,000 people.

In order to carry forward organ donors’ spirit of altruism throughout society, more than 220 memorial sites have been established nationwide.
