According to a Reuters report on May 21, NVIDIA’s CEO Jensen Huang stated that the U.S. export controls on artificial intelligence (AI) to China have failed.

Jensen Huang mentioned during an event in Taipei that NVIDIA’s market share in mainland China has dropped from 95% when former U.S. President Biden took office to the current 50%.

According to Taiwanese media reports on the 21st, for the AI restrictions imposed by the U.S., Jensen Huang clearly expressed his views again. He bluntly stated that the strategy is “completely wrong,” and “if the goal of the restrictions is for the U.S. to maintain its leading position, then according to the current regulations, this will instead lead us to lose our lead.” He pointed out that if the U.S. companies do not compete in the mainland Chinese market, then the technology from mainland China will spread worldwide.

Jensen Huang particularly emphasized that the development in the AI field in mainland China is exceptional, “You cannot hinder them, you cannot stop them from advancing in AI development. Face reality, DeepSeek is an outstanding product. Failure to acknowledge this is an extreme lack of confidence, which is unbearable to me.”

Jensen Huang also stated, “Anyone who thinks that banning the sale of H20 chips to mainland China can cut off their ability to develop AI is extremely ignorant.”
