What if charging your EV took less time than ordering a coffee? BYD just made that real — and they’re bringing it to the rest of the world.
On March 5th, 2026, BYD held a massive launch event in Shenzhen, China — called “Flash Charge China, Change the World” — and they dropped two game-changers at once: the second-generation Blade Battery, and a brand-new flash charging ecosystem.
This isn’t a concept. It’s already going into production cars. Right now.
Let’s talk specs, because these numbers are wild.
10% to 70% — in 5 minutes. 10% to 97% — in just 9 minutes.
That’s full-charge territory, faster than most people’s bathroom breaks.

But here’s the kicker — even at minus 30 degrees Celsius, the cold that kills most EV batteries? BYD says it only adds 3 extra minutes to that charge time.
The charger itself? A 1,500-kilowatt single-gun unit — the most powerful mass-production EV charger on the planet. And they’ve designed a zero-gravity cable system so you’re not dragging a heavy cable across a wet parking lot anymore.
The battery also gets a 5% energy density boost over Gen 1, comes with a lifetime warranty on cells, and exceeds China’s latest safety standards across the board. The Denza Z9GT equipped with this battery hits 1,036 km of range.
Now here’s why this matters beyond China.
BYD just announced they’re rolling out flash charging stations globally by the end of 2026 — they’re calling the vision “Flash Charge Planet.”
Inside China, the target is 20,000 stations by year-end:
18,000 integrated into existing charging networks — within 3 km in major cities
2,000 highway stations, covering nearly one-third of all highway service areas, spaced every 100+ km
The first 1,000 highway stations go live before China’s May holiday — that’s just weeks away
Internationally? Scale-up starts this year. No specific country list announced yet — but the direction is clear: BYD isn’t just exporting cars anymore. They’re exporting the entire charging infrastructure.
And for buyers? BYD CEO Wang Chuanfu announced that every customer who takes delivery of a flash-charge-equipped car gets 12 months of free charging at BYD’s national network from day one. After that, pricing stays in line with the industry standard — no surprise fees.

So let’s be honest — range anxiety has been the #1 excuse people use to avoid going electric. BYD just ran out of patience with that excuse.
9 minutes. 1,036 km. Minus 30 degrees. And a global charging network on the way.
The EV endgame is looking a lot closer than it did yesterday.
