China Urges Immediate Action to End Gaza Humanitarian Crisis

The United Nations Security Council held an emergency session on the humanitarian situation in Gaza on the 13th. China’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Cong, spoke at the meeting, calling for urgent international action to end the humanitarian disaster in Gaza.

On that day, Martin Griffiths, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, briefed the council, stating that Israel is deliberately creating inhumane conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Over the past 10 weeks, Israel has prioritized clearing Gaza over civilian lives, refusing any material access.

Meanwhile, the situation in the West Bank’s occupied Palestinian territories has deteriorated, with settler violence reaching alarming levels under the indulgence of the Israeli military.

Fu Cong stated that Gaza has become a hell on earth. Continuous Israeli bombardment causes new innocent civilian casualties daily. Under a blockade lasting more than two months, survival supplies in Gaza have been exhausted, with hunger and disease spreading rapidly. According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification report, the people of Gaza are experiencing severe food shortages, with nearly 500,000 facing catastrophic hunger. China calls for all international efforts to take urgent action to end the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

Fu emphasized that resuming humanitarian aid is an urgent task. Israel must fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law as the occupying power, immediately lift the blockade, and fully resume material access. China noted that recent proposals by certain countries for a so-called humanitarian material distribution plan have been explicitly rejected by the UN. Humanitarian aid cannot be weaponized, and the principles of impartiality, independence, and neutrality must always be adhered to.

Fu stated that achieving a lasting ceasefire is a priority.

Military means cannot solve the problem.

China urges Israel to immediately halt military offensives on Gaza.

China hopes the United States, as a country with significant influence on the parties involved, will adopt a fair and responsible attitude and make more positive efforts to promote the ceasefire in Gaza.

Fu Cong stated that implementing the “two-state solution” is the only way out. The international community should jointly reject any unilateral actions that undermine the basis of the “two-state solution” and increase efforts to support and guarantee the political process of the “two-state solution.” It is hoped that the high-level meeting to be held in June on the implementation of the “two-state solution” will inject new momentum into consolidating broad international consensus and taking practical actions to implement the “two-state solution.”

Fu stated that China will continue to work with the international community to quell the flames of war in Gaza, alleviate the humanitarian disaster, implement the “two-state solution,” and ultimately achieve a comprehensive, just, and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue.
