On May 22, the U.S. government announced the revocation of Harvard University’s eligibility to host student and exchange scholar programs, effectively barring the institution from admitting international students. In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated at a regular press briefing on May 23 that China firmly opposes the politicization of educational cooperation, and that such actions by the U.S. will only harm its own image and international credibility.

“China-U.S. educational cooperation is mutually beneficial,” Mao Ning said, adding that China will resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese students and scholars abroad.
