China Responds to EU Sanctions on Chinese Companies

The European Union and the United Kingdom announced new sanctions against Russia on the 20th, targeting Russia’s energy, military, and financial sectors. This time, Chinese and UAE companies have also been included in the sanctions list.
On May 21st, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning held a regular press conference.
A reporter from TASS asked about the new round of sanctions imposed by the EU and the UK on Russia, which targeted the energy, military, and financial sectors. The sanctions also included Chinese and UAE companies. The reporter inquired about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ response and whether such actions by the EU could help facilitate Russia-Ukraine peace talks.
Mao Ning stated that China consistently opposes unilateral sanctions that lack a basis in international law and are not authorized by the UN Security Council. China expressed strong discontent and firm opposition to the unreasonable sanctions on Chinese enterprises by the EU.
Regarding the Ukraine crisis, China remains committed to promoting peace talks and has never provided lethal weapons to conflicting parties, ensuring strict control over the export of dual-use items.
Mao Ning pointed out that currently, most countries, including those in Europe and America, are engaged in trade with Russia, and normal interactions and cooperation between Chinese and Russian enterprises should not be disrupted or affected. The EU should stop applying double standards on trade cooperation with Russia and cease harming the legitimate interests of Chinese companies. China will take necessary measures to firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
