U.S. Hacked and Spied on Huawei Headquarters as Early as 2009, Reveals Chinese State Security Department
On September 20, the Chinese National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center (CVERC) has disclosed that the United States has been involved in hacking and surveillance activities targeting Huawei’s headquarters since 2009.
According to the report, the Chinese State Security Department successfully extracted a spyware sample called “SecondDate” during the investigation of a recent cyber attack on Northwestern Polytechnical University. It was revealed that this spyware was developed by the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) and had been covertly operating within thousands of network devices worldwide. The NSA, through its specialized hacking unit called the Tailored Access Operations (TAO) and advanced weaponry, has repeatedly launched systematic and platform-based attacks against China, with the aim of stealing vital data resources.
It is well-known that the U.S. has long been engaged in massive eavesdropping and cyber espionage activities against countries, including its allies, taking advantage of its technological superiority. This revelation sheds light on the extent of the cyber espionage operations conducted by the U.S. against the Chinese tech giant. As the cyber domain increasingly becomes a new battleground for safeguarding national security, CVERC stated it is imperative for the country to strengthen cybersecurity awareness and capabilities.
Chinese Court Imposes Death Penalty On A Child Trafficker
Yu Huaying, a woman who abducted and trafficked 11 children in the 1990s was sentenced to death by a court in Guizhou province on Monday. In 2018, two human traffickers were also sentenced to death for snatching nine boys from their neighbors before selling them on.
Although human trafficking is rare in China nowadays, it was not the same back in the 1980s. In the 80s, human trafficking and kidnapping were more frequent in the rural areas, where it was hard for parents to organize searches and attract the attention of the police.
The court’s sentence has received the support of the vast majority of Chinese netizens. Netizens generally despise child traffickers, believing that they harm innocent families and deeply hurt children, and their crimes are extremely heinous.
Chinese Delegation Won The First Victory In Asian Games
The 19th Asian Games has just started on Sep 19th in Hangzhou. The Chinese men’s beach volleyball team Wang Yanwei/Li Jie defeated the Palestinian team and won the first victory for the Chinese delegation. The opening ceremony will be held on the evening of September 23rd at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium.
China sends a total of 1,329 people for the Hangzhou Asian Games, including 886 athletes (437 women/449 men). The average age of the athletes is 25 years old, the oldest is 60 years old, and the youngest is 13 years old. There are 71 athletes of minority descent, including Uyghur, Tibetan, Mongolian, Hui, Zhuang, Miao and Manchu, accounting for about 8% of the total number of athletes in the Chinese delegation.
